Happy Halloween…in follow-up to my polka dotted pumpkin post:

This Old House gives us a procession of abandonedruins throughout the U.S., many of which are in the Northeast and look vaguely familiar from elementary school field trips.  It made me try to remember the point of the project that required us to make pencil shadings at a Puritan graveyard in New Hampshire in the seventh grade.

Each time I landed on a new picture, I thought, definitely the eeriest.  Until I reached the next one.  The mental hospital bed with beautiful snowscape and ancient scratch marks on the walls (above), ghost towns and, um, the mold-infested insane asylum that’s still partially in use??????

And then….

Has anyone ever noticed a wayward shoe on the sidewalk, in Chinatown perhaps?  I’ve always had this weird feeling that it indicates something sinister….this picture made me shudder.
